MORE FROM THE LAND DOWN UNDER

We have so many of these items that we can not fit them all on one page!

The following includes original items created by Australian Master Locksmith Ian McColl. Some of these items were recently featured on the T.N.T. Production “HOUDINI”. In addition to the handcuffs illustrated, many more are available, such as the German Stotz, Houston Bar, Hillyard, Lorey Combination Cuff, the infamous Kleppini “FRAUD” challenge handcuff, etc. Also, of special interest to both escape artists and collectors alike, is that keys for most long out of production handcuffs are available.

GUITEAU HANDCUFF

One of the rarest handcuffs in the world.  There are only about three or four known specimens to still exist.  This reproduction handcuff is true to the original-right down to the highly unusual KEY-WITHIN-A-KEY!  Houdini is credited with giving the handcuff its name, because it was used to restrain the assassin of U.S. President Garfield, Charles Guiteau.  The original cuffs are believed to have been made by the the manufacturer of the Delestatius and Rankin handcuffs.  These cuffs come with a very detailed and illustrated instruction pamphlet that teaches you how properly unlock the cuffs, as well as providing a terrific history of the original manacles.

TOWER LYON THUMBCUFFS

FINGER CUFF

Wow!  These are both beautiful and extremely unique!  You have all heard of Thumb Cuffs.  How about FINGER Cuffs?  Mr. McColl has created these out of Laser cut, Stainless Steel.  They utilize a standard modern handcuff key.  A real challenge for the escapist.  And it truly adds a "New look" to your publicity photos.  Wonderful item.

CANNON FLASH HANDCUFF

This beautiful STAINLESS STEEL solid state handcuff is LASER-CUT.  What a joy to handle.  Similar to the old Flash Action Manacle, but with this one uses a modern, S&W or Peerless barrel key.  It is a SINGLE-LOCKING handcuff, making it "escape-artist friendly".  Suggest an "articulating tool" for escape.  Each cuff has it's own serial number.  Mr. McColl released this cuff to the public in November, 2003.

  • Please specify standard or gimmicked for quick release.

HingedFigure8PadlockingManacle.JPG (9008 bytes)

HINGED FIGURE 8 PADLOCKING MANACLE

Simple, yet highly effective. Two “3” shaped irons that fold together on a hinge. A staple allows for a padlock to secure. Several ways to go with this one: First, you can purchase it not gimmicked. This will necessitate either picking the borrowed padlock (good luck!), or you can use an Australian Tricked or Cannon’s Pickable Padlock. You will have to practice with this one, but you will definitely come across as very talented. Secondly, you can order this one gimmicked and use a borrowed padlock.  Use in conjunction with the Hinged Padlocking Leg Irons and/or Hinged Padlocking Neck Collar below.  Blackened steel.

  • Please indicate standard or gimmicked.

This will necessitate either picking the borrowed padlock (good luck!), or you can use an Australian Tricked or Cannon’s Pickable Padlock, Master #21 Spirit Padlock, etc.  Secondly, you can order this one gimmicked and use a borrowed padlock.  Use these with the Hinged Padlocking Leg Irons and/or the Hinged Padlocking Neck Collar below.  Handcuffs with a longer chain may be substitued.

HINGED PADLOCKING NECK COLLAR

The perfect complement to the above Hinged Padlocking Figure 8 Manacles and/or Hinged Padlocking Leg Irons.  This neck collar can be ordered standard or gimmicked.  In the case of a  standard collar, we suggest our Australian Tricked Padlock for instant escape.  Or, you can order it gimmicked, which would allow you to have the collar secured with a borrowed padlock, and yet still escape.  Two additional staples on either side allow for the attaching of chains and cuffs, etc.  Blackened steel.

  • Please indicate standard or gimmicked.

LILLY BAR IRON

The famous bar handcuffs invented during the Civil War by Sgt. Lilly. These handcuffs gained notoriety when they were used on the conspirators in the President Lincoln assassination. Legend has it that poor ol’ Sgt. Lilly lost his mind and died with a pair of these on! Available nickel plated or antique finish.

IRISH EIGHT HANDCUFF

This is a beautiful Darby-style Figure Eight handcuff. More commonly known as Irish 8’s, they are hinged at one end and lock at the other. Due to immobility, these pose a real challenge to the escape artist. Nickel plated.

DarbySolidStateHC.JPG (14125 bytes)

DARBY STYLE “SOLID STATE” HANDCUFFS

These “Old World” style handcuffs use the old-fashioned screw key. However, instead of two cuffs joined by a chain link THE ENTIRE HANDCUFF IS ONE SOLID UNIT! EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR THE PRISONER TO RELEASE HIMSELF. But, with a little practice, a professional escape artist can release himself.

GermanHamburg8HC.JPG (13228 bytes)

GERMAN HAMBURG EIGHT HANDCUFF

This is the famous shackle that folds in half for carrying and instant opening, but when placed on a prisoners hands, they stay locked. Very ingenious design. Here is the best part: they are available standard or gaffed. The gaff is such that when placed on a volunteer’s hands, they cannot escape. But when placed on the escape artist, he immediately escapes in FULL VIEW OF THE AUDIENCE!

  • Please specify standard, gimmicked or supreme gimmicked

GermanStotzHC.JPG (12425 bytes)

GERMAN STOTZ HANDCUFF

A masterpiece! One of the most distinguished and artistic manacles created in mid-19th century Germany, the Stotz is highly prized among collectors. The very unique locking cylinder is at a right angle to the bows, making it very recognizable. Here is your chance to own a work of art.

  • Please specify standard or gaffed.

EliasRichardsHC.JPG (11312 bytes)

ELIAS RICHARDS HANDCUFF

The first known handcuff to be produced in the United States was this hefty example. This is another beautiful work of art, right down to the "ER" stamped on the bow. For history buffs, the Elias Richard was used on John Brown in 1859 on his way to be executed. The lock principle is similar to that of a Darby.

“1902” INSPECTABLE, ESCAPABLE COME-ALONG

This device is the perfect escape shackle! Here is why: although it is not gimmicked, there is a “certain something” that allows instant escape! So, it passes complete inspection! Because your hands are separated by a solid steel bar, it looks absolutely impossible to escape. But you are out IMMEDIATELY. No, your hands do not “slip” or squeeze out. Antiqued for realistic appearance and comes with large, old time “screw type” key.
