PADLOCKS & JAIL LOCKS

Here you will discover some of the most cutting edge gimmicked padlocks available anywhere in the world.  They all perform different tasks, from secretly opening, to allowing the performer to "pick" them, to concealing other needed tools.  Also, you will find an authentic Jail Lock.  Their uses are only limited by your imagination.

THE HAUNTED PADLOCK

A CANNON & McCOLL CREATION © 2002

Very eerie.  Imagine this:  You exhibit a LARGE (approx. 8"x6"x1 1/2") Old World style padlock.  Perhaps it belonged to a long-deceased relative.  You then lock the shackle and hang it on a peg or hook, etc.  THERE IS CLEARLY NOTHING SECRETLY ATTACHED TO THE PADLOCK, such as strings, wires, etc.  YOU STAND SEVERAL FEET AWAY FROM THE LOCK.  As the lights dim and the music sets the mood, you slowly wave your hand toward the lock.  SUDDENLY, THE SHACKLE UNLOCKS ITSELF AND THE PADLOCK BODY FALLS DOWNWARDS ON IT'S OWN WEIGHT WITH A LOUD "CLUNK".  THEN, THE LOCK BODY ROTATES 180 DEGREES!  This is very powerful & visual magic.  Holding a séance?  Imagine the reaction when you "ask for a sign" from Uncle Harry and the lock pops open!  Or perhaps you would want to use it in conjunction with a VISUAL container escape, and let the audience watch you as you somehow open the padlock that is on the OUTSIDE of a glass box, while you are INSIDE!  This item uses ultra-modern, sophisticated technology, BUT DOES NOT USE RADIO REMOTE CONTROL!  As you probably know, radio remote control items can fail due to radio interference (such as your microphone), etc.   A joint Mark Cannon & Ian McColl production.

THE "LOCK"

A Frank Creation  © 2006

This large (approximately 6 1/2" x 3 1/2" x 1 1/2") padlock is designed to look like they did at the Turn of the 20th Century, and is "aged" to look the part.  Inspired by the Germain Lock.  In performance, it is displayed and shown to be locked.  But alas, there is no key.  What would Houdini do?  You ask a volunteer from the audience to hold the lock by its' "U" shaped shackle at the very top.  (Or, it can be laced onto a chain, which is held by the spectator, etc).  While they hold the lock, you step back, and cast the shadow of your forefinger onto the front of the lock--simulating a key.  Suddenly, the lock falls open!  Did your shadow unlock it?  Very spooky.   This lock is entirely mechanical in operation, and the performer has the ability to cause it to open at any time that he or she wishes.  Fits into any escape show, magic show, or Séance.  Comes complete with a canvas carrying bag.  You'll love it.

SUPREME SQUIRE PADLOCK

A McColl Creation  © 2003

For several years, there was another gimmicked Squire Padlock out there on the market.  Although it was adequate for it's era, it had two drawbacks:  First, it had a sliding part that could be discovered by a spectator, and second:  once it was secretly opened, it could not be re-locked without the key.  THIS BRAND NEW VERSION by McColl has remedied both problems.  First, EVEN THOSE WHO OWN THE OLD VERSION WILL HAVE A VERY HARD TIME, DISCOVERING THE SECRET, IF AT ALL.  And yes, it CAN be re-locked after secretly opened.

Another neat attribute of this lock is that you can secretly open it right in front of the spectator without them seeing how you did it!

KEY CHOICE

A McColl Creation  © 2002

The MENTALIST (that's you!) shows a locked, brass PIN TUMBLER style padlock and six keys.  A volunteer tries to open the lock using each key.  None of the keys will open the lock.  You then introduce the last (7th) key.  This key does open the lock.  You then show the padlock to all--illustrating that the shackle is clearly and truly open.  You lock the shackle.  All seven keys are then mixed.  Through "ESP" (?) you select a key.  The volunteer tries it, and of course you have succeeded!  The lock opens!  AND HERE IS THE GREAT PART THAT WAS NOT POSSIBLE BEFORE WITH OTHER "ESP" PADLOCKS:   After the demonstration -- and without re-touching the lock or keys -- you just "happen" to conveniently leave the padlock and all seven keys on the table.   YOU KNOW that someone is going to be curious and try the keys and lock again!  THAT'S OKAY!  Because once again, ONLY ONE KEY WILL OPEN THE LOCK!  This really Solidifies that all is fair(?)!  You must truly be a Mentalist!  Remember, this is not just a warded style lock, but a more sophisticated PIN TUMBLER style.  A mechanical marvel!

KEY-R-RECT 2005 A McColl Recreation of the Carl Wolf Classic

The most popular version of “Seven Keys to Baldpate” of all time, was “Key-R-Rect” by the Late, Great Mr. Carl Wolf. Unfortunately, with his passing, this great mentalism trick passed too. Until now. Ian McColl has now brought this gem back, true to the original interior workings. But this is 2005, and so McColl has used a modern Master padlock to keep up with the times. For those of you lucky enough to have owned an original set, you will be delighted to know that this one works the same exact way. The routine: Seven keys and a Master Warded Padlock are passed out for examination. The first 6 keys fail to open the lock, but the 7th key works perfectly. The padlock is locked. All seven keys are thoroughly mixed. The mentalist “picks up vibrations” and makes his selection without seeing or touching anything: padlock, nor keys. The spectator tries the selected key, and it’s correct!

AMERICAN TRICKED PADLOCK

A McColl Creation

You know the name, so you know they're good!  No, not just American Lock , but Ian McColl!  Brand names make the lock more recognizable and therefore acceptable to an audience.  Choosing a padlock with a great reputation will only add to the escape.  And American Locks™ are considered the industry's standard for security and dependability.  For the escape artist, security means that the lock can be thoroughly examined.  Dependability means that the lock will do what you want, when you want.  Mr. McColl has applied his classic "Australian Tricked Padlock" method (see below) to this well known brand and impressive range of padlocks: the Model 700CC (pictured) and the 748 made by American Lock.  INCREDIBLY, THE AMERICAN PADLOCK IS EVEN MORE EXAMINABLE THAN THE AUSTRALIAN!  THIS LOCK IS DESTINED TO BECOME THE PREMIER TRICKED PADLOCK OF ALL PADLOCKS.

AUSTRALIAN TRICKED PADLOCK

A McColl Creation

There are many different tricked padlocks out there. Unfortunately, most have as many down sides as good. THIS PADLOCK, HOWEVER, IS PROBABLY THE MOST INGENIOUS AND INSPECTABLE EVER MADE. It has a two inch brass lock case and weighs approximately 9 ounces. A volunteer is allowed to inspect, lock and unlock the padlock. Everything works normally, and it will only unlock with the keys. Anyone familiar with gravity locks, spirit locks, pull open locks or rap open locks will still find they cannot open this lock. HOWEVER, WITHOUT THE USE OF ANY TOOLS, THE ESCAPE ARTIST IMMEDIATELY OPENS THE LOCK. Absolutely one of the best utilitarian devices ever created for a professional escape artist.

TRICKED MASTER #175 COMBINATION PADLOCK

A McColl Creation  © 2004

BRAND NEW!  Okay, throw away any and all concepts you may have of other ways to gimmick a padlock, because this is a whole new approach!  First of all, it's ENTIRELY INSPECTABLE BEFORE AND AFTER USE.  Anyone familiar with gravity locks, spirit locks, pull open locks or rap open locks will still find they cannot open this lock.  Here's what it can do:  A volunteer is allowed to inspect, lock and unlock the padlock, AND SET IT TO TRULY ONLY OPEN ON HIS OWN SECRET 4-DIGIT COMBINATION.  It is then used to secure the escapist (ie: into a mail bag, in conjunction with chains, etc.)  HOWEVER, WITHOUT EVEN LOOKING AT IT, THE ESCAPE ARTIST IMMEDIATELY OPENS THE LOCK AND ESCAPES!  Or he can do a pseudo "lock picking".  A terrific utilitarian devices created for the professional escape artist OR MENTALIST!  Psychic and ESP performers, imagine this:  After the spectator sets the combo and locks the padlock, she then locks it inside of a lockable canvas "Night-Drop Bank Bag" and places it on a table.  The performer then simply slides the bag (with lock inside) away from him "so that he can't secretly do anything" (?!)  After the appropriately eerie Séance, the SPECTATOR opens the canvas bag to discover that the padlock is now UNLOCKED!  STILL, THE LOCK MAY BE EXAMINED!

SIGHT-UNSEEN INSPECTABLE COMBINATION PADLOCK

You invite a spectator to try and open a Master Combination Padlock.  He cannot.  You then read the combination to him and HE dials the combination.  HE then opens the lock.  Next, (as an example) he locks you into a box, or behind your back, etc., with the same combo-lock, in such a way that you cannot see the lock, but you can just reach it with your hand.  The audience watches as your fingers begin to rotate the dial back and forth, in an apparent attempt to "crack" the combination.  AMAZINGLY, YOU SUCCEED, and the lock flies open!  Perfect for FULL-VIEW escapes.  NOT a "pull open" lock.  Limited supply.

CANNON'S PICKABLE PADLOCK

Looks a lot like the Australian Tricked Padlock, doesn't it? That's because it serves two functions. First, it can be TOTALLY INSPECTED. Yes, when they look down the keyhole they will see a pin tumbler.  It will be found to operate normally with it's key, etc. However, it has been secretly gaffed to allow the escapist to openly "pick" it open right in front of the audience with any available piece of wire, nail file, etc. This "proves" his escape artist skills and his resourcefulness. Makes the performer look like a real James Bond. Second, because these are made from the same type padlock that the Australian Tricked Padlock is made from, they can be "switched out", used together, and so on. Many professional escapologists purchase both. Their uses are only limited by your imagination.

INSTANT-PICK WARDED PADLOCK

This little Master #22 Warded padlock operates normally with a key, and therefore passes minute inspection. It is then used to secure you (as an example, in conjunction with a chain). The audience then watches as you bend a stiff wire into an “L” shape and IMMEDIATELY use it to open the lock! Great for demonstrating your “lock-picking” abilities.

MASTER #21 "SPIRIT" PADLOCK

This well known padlock measures 1 3/4" wide by 2 1/2'' tall (including shackle).  This padlock is designed to be quickly opened with ANY STIFF OBJECT placed into the keyhole and turned.  Therefore, you can simulate "picking" it open right in front of the audience.  Similar in function to Cannon's Pickable Padlock, but it does not have any pin tumblers.  Therefore it doesn't quite have the "full inspectablity" of the Cannon's Pickable, but most lay people would never notice.  Also operates normally with keys.

THE ONE SECOND LOCK PICK CHALLENGE

A Dexter Creation

Here is a brand new, FANTASTIC Lock picking routine that you can do with a Master Padlock!  Created by Master Mentalist and Magician Dexter, this complete booklet teaches you not only how to pick open the lock, but how to apparently do so in ONLY ONE SECOND!  Imagine picking it open quicker than the spectator can open the lock with the key!  YES -- The lock is Legitimate! Comes complete with manuscript, padlock, Rake Pick and Tension tool.

GRAVITY MASTER #5 PADLOCK

A McColl Creation

This padlock is larger than the #21, and measures 2" wide by 3'' tall (including shackle).  This lock is FULLY FUNCTIONING, therefore it can be shown to work with keys, etc.  However, it is designed to be quickly opened by simply tilting it in a particular direction while also doing a "certain something"!  No tools needed.  Will stand CASUAL inspection.

Master5Padlock.JPG (40979 bytes)

DELUXE FULLY INSPECTABLE GRAVITY/CAVITY MASTER #5 PADLOCK

A McColl Creation

Are you ready for this?  First of all like the padlock above, it is large and measures 2" wide by 3'' tall (including shackle).  Also, it is FULLY FUNCTIONING, therefore it can be shown to work with keys, etc.  And, like the one above, it is designed to be quickly opened by simply tilting it in a particular direction while also doing a "certain something", so no tools are needed.  BUT HERE IS WHERE IT REALLY GETS GOOD:  First, located inside the lock you will find a specially designed handcuff key (included) that, when used in conjunction with the padlock itself can be used to open legitimate handcuffs!  BUT THEN, AFTER YOU HAVE ESCAPED, YOU CAN FREELY HAND THE PADLOCK OUT FOR INSPECTION ALONG WITH ITS KEYS, BECAUSE IT IS NOW NO LONGER A "GRAVITY" LOCK!  They can lock and unlock it all they want.  Tilting it now DOES NOTHING!  The idea employed here by Mr. McColl is truly revolutionary.  Easily resets for the next performance.  Start Clean-End Clean!

AUTHENTIC JAIL LOCK—MAXIMUM SECURITY

This is the genuine article! All of these jail locks are 5 1/2” x 3 3/4” x 1 1/2” and weigh approximately 6 1/2 lbs! Very impressive. They come with one very large key. Four bolt holes allow for easy installation onto your “jail cell”, packing crate, cage or whatever your imagination can conjure. They come with access keyholes either on one or both sides. Extra keys can be ordered, as well as “strike plates” to receive the dead bolt.

McCOLL GIMMICKED JAIL LOCK©2005

Mr. McColl has done it again!  Although it looks, weighs, and operates like the real deal, this one is ingenuously gaffed to allow the performer to escape!  Same dimensions as the one above.  And it too, is very impressive. Here's what it can do:  First, all passes minute, hands-on examination.  The spectators satisfy themselves that the dead-bolt can only be opened with the key.  Then, they lock you into the cell (or whatever container that you decide to use it on).  However, anytime you wish, you can open the dead-lock WITHOUT USING A KEY!  Lock can even be bolted to the OUTSIDE of a SOLID DOOR, and yet you can escape from the INSIDE.  Want to do a full-view picking?  Let them see you reach your hand through the jail bars, and then insert a wire into the keyhole.  Whenever you are ready, the jail lock bolt opens!  Comes with two keys and a strike plate.  Four bolt holes allow for easy installation onto your “jail cell”, packing crate, cage or whatever your imagination can conjure.  This lock has already been used by one of the world's leading performers on TV to great success.

HOUDINI’S SECRET CAVITY PADLOCK

LARGE SECRET CAVITY PADLOCK

A McColl Creation

This cavity padlock is similar to the one described above. However, it is larger (8 1/2” x 5 1/2” x 2” thick), and is styled similar to that of an “Old-English” lever padlock. Additionally, it’s secret opening works differently than the Houdini Cavity Padlock. Because of the size of this lock, more and larger keys/picks can be hidden. A terrific item.

MAXIMUM SECURITY LOCK AND HASP SET-GIMMICKED

A Mark Cannon creation © 2007

Made from the genuine article! This thing is MASSIVE and HEAVY.

Overall size of entire unit is approximately 4 1/2” x 9”, and weighs almost 5 pounds. The lock itself is a wafer-shaped design. The hasp can be used to secure (as an example) the barred-door of a cage or jail cell. The spectators actually lock the padlock and keep the keys. They try and pull off the lock, and it won’t budge. Yet, WITHOUT ANY TOOLS, PICKS OR KEYS, YOU QUICKLY UNLOCK THE PADLOCK AND THROW OPEN THE DOOR TO ESCAPE!
